Getting those essentials
Unless you have decided to eat out or have food delivered every day, the chances are you will need a supermarket. We have a number of different supermarkets to choose from each one being useful in it's own way.
Be aware that in Spain, like other European countries, supermarkets charge 5 cents a plastic bag. To avoid this charge we have plenty of reusable bags for your to use which you can find in the kitchen.

Please also be aware that when you pay by credit/debit card, they will often ask for a photo ID, so please make sure you take some out with you.

Most of the supermarkets are open until 9.30/10pm Monday to Saturday with at least one chain (just minutes from the villa) open every day. Unfortunately Spain is one of those countries that closes most of it's shops on Sundays with the exception of the summer months (5th July to 13th September) where all supermarkets are open on a Sunday for your convenience.

SuperCor

SuperCor is a convenience store that is located just minutes drive or a 15 minute walk down the road from the villa. The best part about having this shop so close is that it is open 365 days of the year and open until late in the evening.
However, as with many convenience stores around the world, the convenience comes at a price. It's probably the most expensive out of all the supermarkets, however a lot of people go there daily to pick up there freshly baked bread etc as they have a bakers/pastries onsite and often your loafs will still be warm when you buy them.
SuperSol

SuperSol has a large selection of different foods. This supermarket stocks your typical Spanish brands but does also stock some uk and other popular European brands, which is perhaps one of the reasons it is slightly higher in price than Mercadona which is a typical Spanish supermarket.

As you enter the shop there is a fresh bakery/pastries section where you can also pick up a coffee if you wish.
Mercadona

Mercadona is a typical Spanish supermarket. If you are looking for authentic Spanish or just looking to find a more reasonably priced supermarket then this shop is certainly worth a visit. It's range consists mainly of private which allows it to offer low prices.

Mercadona is an excellent supermarket for people who suffer from celiac or for those who wish not to eat gluten as 90% of this supermarket's stock is gluten free. All these products are well marked too so as to avoid mistakes.
Lidl

For those that have already heard of Lidl will know it is famous for reasonable quality low priced produce.
For those that haven't heard of this chain then you might like to know that it is a German international supermarket chain that is situated around Europe. Conveniently it is located right next door to the Mercadona mentioned above. So if you can’t get what you were looking for in Mercadona then you could always walk across the car park and give Lidl a try.
Lidl offer private brands which keeps costs low, they also stock bakery items, meats, seafood and many non food items.
Iceland

For the many visiting Brits to the Costa del Sol each year, Iceland is your home from home supermarket. It stocks your typical Iceland products you will find if you have Iceland in your home country, but there are also products from Waitrose (a quality products supermarket found in the UK).
This Supermarket is little more expensive than the prices in the other mentioned supermarkets, and you might notice this if you have Iceland in your home country. The reason for this, so we are told, is due to the import/ transportation costs.

This supermarket is Situated in Fuengirola situated 18 minutes drive from the villa. If you were planning a visit to the Miramar Shopping Mall then as this is only minutes drive away you may want to put a visit in your schedule to see the different selection of groceries that Iceland has to offer.
Mall Supermarkets
We have two main malls in either direction up or down the coast. Both have large supermarkets and a written about on our Shopping Malls page. The first can be found at the La Canada mall and the other can be found inside the Miramar mall.
